Licensee David Cowen was summoned at the February 1912 Brewster Sessions for persistent cruelty to his wife. She was granted a separation. In his evidence Cowen stated he had been landlord of the Prince of Wales for 'nearly ten years'. Previously a seaman, he became landlord of the Steamboat - was there for six years - without complaint
