The Norfolk Chronicle of 8th September 1781 advised...
To be Lett, and entered upon at Michaelmas next, all that good accustomed Public House or Inn, known by the sign of the Red Bull, in Downham Market, in the County of Norfolk.
N.B. the Fixtures, Brewing Utensils, Stock and Furniture, to be taken at a fair Appraisement.
Enquire James Moon, the present Occupier who is going to decline that Way of Business.
(Note :- On Monday 8th April 1782 two Tenements, occupied by Robert Plummer, James Parker and others, owned by James Moon were to be sold by auction at his premises, the BULL. He is still there 1794)

With yard, cottage, stabling for 40 horses, granaries and various other buildings. In occupation of Ashley Main and his under-tenants.

Appears as the RED BULL 1822, 1836, 1845 and from 1895.

In 1860, the Register of Electors names the house as the BLACK BULL and gives the Mepal Brewery, Messrs Vipan, as the owners.

Monday 6th March 1905, Mrs Carter applied for renewal of licence. The Police Superintendent considered the house redundant and was next door to the Rampant Horse. In support of the house, Messrs Eyres said that £126 had been spent on the house in the previous five years. It was a big house, in good condition and capable of doing good business.
Provisional licence granted.

Monday 12th February 1906 - Licence renewal adjourned for consideration at the licensing meeting to be held 12th March 1906.
12th March 1906 - Licence granted.
