In 1800 Edmund Bartell wrote :
` The public house, by the name of the Windmill, the only one which I saw, and I believe the only one in the place, is truly uncomfortable: indeed the people, in general, seem far behind their neighbours in civilisation'

In 1806 he added :
`This house has since been rebuilt, and I hear is an excellent one, but is carried on by the same people'.

On Thursday 24th September 1863, William Blogg sought to recover £1 15s 11d from coastguardsman James Sharpe.
It was heard that Blogg had killed pigs for Sharpe and provided "imbibations" to him.
The defendant was uncommonly fond of a certain draught known as "hot-pot", a combination of warm beer and spirits.
His Honour was inclined to believe that the value of spirits could be recovered; but since that could be disputed in law, he deducted the value from the debt.
Payment of the balance was to be paid at once.

On 17th April 1861, Captain Henry King promised to advance a sovereign to Henry Blogg towards the expenses of a steeplechase. In total there were seven subscribers and £3 was committed. On the night before the chase, King discovered that Blogg had printed bills on his own authority announcing the race the following day. He then found that there were no stewards, no committee, no secretary, and the whole proceedings, he believed, were a dodge by Blogg to fill his house. The race was run King refused to give Blog the sovereign, instead he gave it directly to the winner, a Mr. Durrant.
Mr. Blogg's claim that he had been promised the money and expected to be paid was non-suited and he was ordered to pay the costs of the hearing.

Note that Francis LeNeve is given at the HILL HOUSE in 1845 and 1854.

Named 1858 as the WINDMILL or HAPPISBURGH HILL
