  On Wednesday 16th December 1903, Horace Thurston was adjudged bankrupt owing £233 3s 6d. He had taken the King's Arms, Bacton in 1895, but trade had become bad and he left there in 1896. He sold off his effects for £51, but still owed £200. He then took on the Earl of Leicester, beerhouse, but did not inform the brewers of his situation.
He had practically no assets and was almost penniless.
