On Thursday 23rd January 1873, in commemoration of the wedding day of Mr. & Mrs. T. Riches of the Maltster's Arms, 1873 changes of bob minor were rung in the tower. Afterwards Mr. Riches freely provided a plentiful supply of beer to about sixty persons.

Also found as JOLLY MALSTERS.

On Friday 10th March 1905, licence renewal was opposed by Superintendent Southgate. He reported that another house practically adjoined and another was only 310 yards distant. There was a local population of 784.
In support of licence renewal it was stated that the premises were excellent and offered good accommodation. A considerable trade was done (said to be 80 barrels a year). A considerable number of inhabitants felt that the licence should be renewed.
The Bench unconditionally renewed the licence.

On Friday 5th March 1909 it was heard that the KINGS HEAD was 22 yards distant and the MAIDS HEAD 345 yards. The house contained a kitchen and bar, private sitting-room and a sweet shop, with separate entrance, back kitchen, Etc. The shop communicated with the house.
In 1906 the trade had been 81 barrels
In 1907, 75 barrels
In 1908, 89 barrels
`A good class of people' signed a memorial supporting the retention of licence.

Friday 24th December 1916 - Application made by Messrs. Steward & Patteson for approval of plans for alterations, dismissed by the magistrates since they regarded the plans as inadequate. Until the landlords were in a position to do all the works required, there seemed no point in discussing the matter further.

S&P advised the Magistrates by letter that the house had closed 17th February 1955. A following letter dated 9th July 1956 states that `Premises were sold with licence to Lacons, and subsequently sold by Lacons, unlicensed.

Lacons sent a letter dated 11th July 1956 stating `that the licence will be voluntarily surrendered.
