Louis ( Lajos ) Kossuth 1802 to
1894.
Depending upon whose history is referenced either became Governor of Independent Hungary
and Father of Hungarian Democracy, or Dictator of Hungary. Defeated 1849 by joint
Russian Czarist and Austrian forces, Kossuth initially fled to the USA but spent his final
45 years in Britain and Italy promoting Hungarian Independence.
The Austro-Hungarian Empire formed following his defeat. |
