The house is mentioned in Steward & Patteson documents dated from 6th November 1837 to
November 1851 as being a hired house, owned by Steward, Patteson, Finch & Co.
Given as the FREEMASONS ARMS 1830.
The MASONIC ARMS in 1845.Address as
Church Street in 1865.
The Chief Constable objected to licence renewal at the February 1906 Sessions.
Inspector Windsor reported that this was a very old fashioned house, with about one room
for the public. It was in very bad repair, tumbling to pieces. The tenant was employed in
the shoe trade and away from the premises for much of the day.
There were 12 other ( licensed ) houses within 200 yards.
Licence provisionally refused 07.02.1906 and referred to Compensation.
Closed under Compensation 23.08.1907. |
