Before the magistrates on Monday 11th January 1909, it was heard that dealer William Grimes had entered the house on 5th January, leading his donkey into the bar. Licensee George Sharman advised him that it was no place for a donkey and ejected the both of them. Grimes returned and put the butt end of his whip through the windows. On the previous Wednesday Grimes had been fined 20s with 7s costs and 7s damages on another offence. This time he was fined 10s with 9s costs and 30s damages, or one month.
