William Ranns is recorded in a December 1858 inquest.
Thomas Valentine was said by some, to have been struck by Ranns and subsequently fell over that side of a bridge and was drowned.

Thanks 26.09.05 to Jan Valentine in NZ for the info of 1858 inquest.
