ADMIRAL VERNON COW HILL, St GILES
St. MARTIN AT OAK
St. PETER MANCROFT

Admiral Vernon took the port of  Porto Bello ( Portobello ) from the Spanish in 1739.
He is credited with the introduction in 1740, of watered down rum rations to his crew.
Vernon apparently had the nickname of `Old Grog' and so the reduced rum ration took on the name of Grog.
