It was announced 13th April 1776 that a Main of Cocks 
would be fought at the  MAIDS HEAD INN, 
Gt. Yarmouth over three days, commencing Monday 15th April between the Gentlemen 
of Suffolk and the Gentlemen of Norfolk. Showing Twenty One Mains and Ten Byes, 
for Four Guineas a Battle and Twenty guineas the Odd Battle. The Gentlemen would 
be welcomed by their Humble Servant, Joseph Birt.
Another such event took place on Monday 13th January 1777,  ` To shew Twenty-five Mains and Ten Byes, For Five Guineas 
a Battle, and Fifty the Odd. Gentlemen shall meet with civil Usage and a hearty 
Welcome from, Their Humble Servant, Joseph Birr.'
