Harry Shalders was given notice to quit, December 1904. On Monday 5th December it was argued upon his behalf that the reasons for his dismissal should be heard by the Bench. Considering the situation, the Bench concluded that the owners had a perfect right to give notice, and, if necessary, to eject the tenant. Transfer to Mr. Thaxter granted.

In January 1925, Mr. George C. Smith was in recovering at home having been in hospital for five weeks being treated for muscular rheumatism. His daughter Hilda had been running the house and on 22nd January had sold a half-a-pint of gin for 4s 6d. Upon analysis the gin was found to be 47.25 under proof, where the law  fixed the standard to be no greater than 35 degrees under proof. It was claimed by the County Analyst that the gin had been adulterated  with 18¾ per cent of added water. Mr. Smith said that the gin had been served from an old bottle, the strength of which was permitted until a quite recent date.
The Bench took the view that there was no intent to defraud and so imposed a nominal penalty of 14s 2d, which included costs.
