On Sunday 21st August 1887, Police-constable Cook witnessed seventeen
people enter the house, mostly by the back door, between the hours of 5:45
am and 11:15 am. Landlord Stephen Fryer had been serving beer at 7:45 to a
man at the back door for which he was paid.
A labourer by the name of Abel Spinks had entered the house at 8:30 and left
2 minutes later, wiping his mouth.
Liable to a maximum fine of £10, Fryer was fined £2 and 10s costs.
