It was recorded Friday, 18th January 1878 that Mary Ann Beales, widow of the late Jeremiah Beales, had died on 15th January 1878. She was the mother of R & S Beales, linen manufacturers of the parish. When her first grandchild was born, it had, father and mother, two grandfathers, two grandmothers, four great grandfathers, four great grandmothers, and fifteen uncles and aunts, all residing in the same parish. |
![]() Image thanks to the Diss Family History Group. Jeremiah Beales is described as a butcher in 1831, no mention of beer. The Debtors and Creditors of Jeremiah Beales were advised 6th March 1840 that all his Effects had been assigned to Edward D. Alston and James Carver, both of Diss, for the Mutual Benefit of his Creditors. Mr. Beales was described as a Beer-house Keeper and Butcher. The Farming Stock, 2 Weanlings, 11 Pigs, Growing crops of Corn, Brewing Utensils, &c. For Sale by Auction Thursday, 27th July 1876, by direction of the executrix of the late Jeremiah Beals. A Freehold Tenement in the occupations of E. Edwards and Mrs. Ludbrook, with Weaving Shop, and a Freehold Residence with Weaving Shop, and 1a. 1r. Land, was For Sale by Auction, Thursday, 23rd January 1879, by direction of Robert Beales, the Executor of the late Jeremiah Beales. There was no objection to the licence being referred at the East Harling Brewster Sessions held Monday 12th February 1906. With a population of 600 and 5 fully licensed houses in the parish, the house was deemed to be surplus. Licence renewal refused 21st June 1906 and referred to Compensation. Not found 1908. ~ |
